Skin Care for Oily Skin – Top 7 Lightweight Moisturisers-Normal | Combination | Oily Skin Types

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!

“A moisturiser a day, keeps flakey cracked skin away.”

Unless you live on extreme cold or desert regions, a thin layer of moisture is enough to keep the skin soft and protected. But often people completely skip this step in their skincare routine which is so very wrong. One can only manage to live without a moisturiser when they are in their teens. I strongly request everyone to use at least less than a pea sized amount but no matter how oily their skin feels, they should not put it at the risk of being deprived of natural oils(provided by certain moisturisers) that consequently leads to infection, dermatitis and even acne. Choosing different types of chemical exfoliants like these to help slough off dead skin cells and reduce excess sebum is the right way to improve your skin condition.

Today’s list compiles all the moisturisers that provide hydration and minimal moisturisation, because that’s what most skin needs on a daily basis. I have struggled with finding a good moisturiser for years until I found out that not giving my skin enough moisture was the cause for looking like my skin is an oil manufacturing plant.

If your moisturiser does any of these things mentioned below, then you need to switch it;

  • Make the skin look dull in a way that you look a few tones darker than your actual skin tone
  •  Your skin looks flakey because of oil free moisturisers that don’t hydrate enough
  • Makeup smears because of greasy base

I will be talking about all of my top 7 lightweight moisturisers in detail but they are displayed in no specific order. To know more, please keep reading.

Innisfree is one of the most popular Korean brands with quite a few of their products being constant bestsellers. Their Jeju Seawater line is made with water sourced from Jeju, a preserved island in South Korea known to have one of the most pristine and pure environments and water. Jeju Lava Seawater cream has an easily absorbing formula that sinks in the skin without leaving an oily residue and has a nice fresh herbal scent. It contains Squalane, derived from Squalene which is naturally a part of our skin’s fatty acid component. Squalane moisturises the skin thoroughly, protects the skin barrier(remember when I talked about the importance of healthy skin barrier in this post without the heaviness of the usual oils. This cream also contains plant extracts like Orchid and Cactus, Sucrose and Mannitol- skin conditioning ingredients, antioxidants. You get hydrating and moisturising benefits in a cream that can be used both day and night with any other products in your skincare routine.

Can you recall the feeling of trying out a moisturiser that felt like silk and you instantly fell in love with everything about it from packaging, to the consistency to how it makes your skin look and the fragrance that you want to go on sniffing? Well, this is what I felt when I tried a sample of Lancomé Hydrazen Gel Cream and got myself a full size tub at the airport and ended up running towards the gate so I don’t miss my flight—I am only human and a greedy skincare junkie, lol

This moisturiser that is a cream and gel hybrid is designed to calm down any mild inflammation caused by daily external factors like pollution and heat, and the silky gel consistency leaves the skin soft and dewy. Don’t be alarmed when I say dewy, your skin will not feel greasy and sticky. Infact, this cream works as a thin veil of primer to slightly blur the visible pores on the inner cheek area.

Peony, Moringa, Rose Gallica and Madecassoside, all of these ingredients present in this gel moisturiser are known to possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

I am totally in love with this matte moisturiser. It’s like Aloevera gel but loaded with antioxidants. Day Wear Matte has a satin matte like finish and doesn’t even take a minute to get absorbed in the skin. It does give long lasting effect mattifying effect. Estee Lauder always add a mix of non pore clogging antioxidants and anti inflammatory ingredients. This gel that smells like cucumber, actually does contain Cucumber with Barley, Lentil, Apple fruit, Algae, Ferment, Caffeine, Acetyl Glucosamine, Probiotics, Watermelon extracts. Adding fermented ingredients in skincare has been used by Asian companies and is now being accepted by brands worldwide as many studies prove their benefits.

This is the product you need during sticky monsoons to wear during the daytime. It will never make your skin feel parched or look dull. And a hefty dose of hydrating ingredients will keep the skin refreshed without looking flat.

You must be thinking, why the need to add Aloevera gel to top moisturisers list, but this isn’t just any other artificially dyed Aloevera gel. Even though green tea range from Innisfree is very popular, I love their other collections including Aloe Revital.

This gel comes in a giant 300ml tube at an extremely affordable price and I love decanting some of it to store in the refrigerator and soothe my skin anytime I like. Aloe Revital Soothing Gel is completely colour free and has Madecassoside which is an excellent and very well known anti-inflammatory ingredient, you can commonly find it under the names Cica, Centella Asiatica, Asiatic Acid, Gotu Kala.

It also contains Cactus- an excellent hydrating ingredient, Orchid, Citrus Unshiu-part of the citrus family, antioxidant-rich Camellia Sinensis and Japonica.

No matter what the skin type, I highly recommend buying this product to calm down any flare-ups and also use as a sleeping mask.

This product needs no introduction but it is, in fact, one of those out there when you worry that every moisturiser will break you out or leave your skin looking like a grease ball. An old favourite still ticks the right boxes for no-fuss lightweight hydration with skin-strengthening moisture as the brand likes to call this best seller.

It contains Cucumber, Barley, Sunflower seedcake, plant extracts with Hyaluronic acid, Chamomile, Vitamin E, Algae and a yeast, all provide water balance to the skin while preventing inflammation from daily stressors in a lightweight penetrating formula.

There are two size options and both are travel-friendly while the large bottle comes with a pump and one pump is enough to cover the face and neck. You can use it under makeup and the hydration lasts all day.

Remember, this is not a mattifying formula so if you are looking for something that absorbs excess oil and gives a shine-free face then you should try Estee Lauder Daywear Matte Gel-Creme.
