Summer Skincare With Andalou Naturals-Brightening Collection

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog!

After my successful review of Andalou Naturals  1000 Roses Collection,  I wanted to explore the brand further and as I have been quite satisfied with their Brightening Eye and Face Serum, the Brightening Line seemed to be a fair choice.

Andalou Naturals Brightening Collection Kit Contains;

.8 fl oz Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser
– 1 fl oz Clementine + C Illuminating Toner
– .5 fl oz Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask
– .4 fl oz Probiotic + C Renewal Cream
– .4 fl oz Purple Carrot + C Luminous Night Cream

Fruit stem cell complex made from Heirloom Apples and Grapes in a liposomal delivery system that ensures deeper penetration of ingredients, although a bit controversial on its performance, there is no doubt both the fruit extracts are very high in antioxidants.

Certified Organic Bioactive Complex, including açai, aronia and goji berry complex that is high in anthocyanins, a form of antioxidant.

Vitamin C line is formulated to protect, prevent and rejuvenate the skin that not only reduces dark spots and improves the tone of the skin but also provides protection from future damage.

Lemon Creamy Cleanser, Probiotic + C Renewal Cream and Enlighten Turmeric Serum are some of the brand’s bestsellers, two of which are part of the Brightening Kit.

Aloe Vera is the first ingredient in all the products.

Indicated for;

Normal to Combination skin types and also who suffer from sun damage and dark spots.

This is a cream cleanser, and let me tell you, I stay as far away as possible from those face cleansers that has a word cream, milk, lotion in it as I have always broke out from the ingredients. But, this one has to be an exception. It is an amazing formula that starts with a cream, gently dissipates into milk and washes away all the dirt and grease. Although the brand mentions “velvety lather”, you will not find much of a lather situation here, but you can be rest assured as this cleanser doesn’t leave any residue but your skin will thank you from the very first use itself. This cleanser is a mix of antioxidant-rich fruit extracts, soothing Aloe Vera, sorbitol and honey with fatty acid rich oils and emollients like sunflower seed oil and sea buckthorn oil. The star ingredient is Meyer lemon juice, a citrus family member with its roots in China. Many cleansers include emollients that often leave a residue and that along with usual sweating and sebum production gives the bacteria a wonderful ground for breeding. Whether or not you will break out in pimples, if your skin is very reactive, you will be covered in comedones within a matter of days. I am glad to have come across the formulation of cream cleanser that I can always look forward to using and will definitely buy a full-size bottle.

For a proper cleansing experience, splash some warm water on the skin, take a dime size amount Lemon Meyer Cleanser and start massaging in gentle motions all over the face and neck, not forgetting hairline and behind your ears. Do this for at least a minute with light yet firm movements. I often notice women massaging a cleanser in all directions literally pulling and tugging the skin that can lead to unnecessary inflammation, so please be gentle with your skin. Rinse off with warm water thoroughly and let your skin air dry or pat dry with a soft towel.

This toner is a Vitmin C packed dose before your usual trestment products. It is refreshing, extremely light weight, no slimy residue and has an amazing fragrance. The bottle is a pretty orange colour but don’t be worried, this product is dye free, so it is clear. This toner is literally like water, so it will suit even the oiliest of skin types without feeling occlusive.

Vitamin C works in many ways as well as an antioxidant and there is plenty of it in this toner such as Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, a form of stabilised Vitamin C, Clementine, Hibiscus, Rooibos, White Tea with an antioxidant-rich patented Berry Complex, a part of all the products from Andalou Naturals. To calm down any irritation or redness, there is Glycerin, Panthenol and Sodium PCA that also works as humectants, they give your skin plump effect.

Use this toner on slightly damp skin day and night on freshly cleansed face and neck.

Have you tried “Enzymatic Exfoliation”? If not, then you must!

This bestselling mask uses active Pumpkin Puree, Pineapple with Glycolic Acid and Apple Fruit Extract to work on the glue that holds the dead skin cells together. By dissolving the mortar i.e the glue between the bricks, aka dead skin cells, this mask helps to reveal a smoother skin texture that is less oily and plump. It also contains Sunflower and Meadowfoam Seed oil with Honey for moisturisation. I notice a considerable visible difference in the texture and tone of my skin post use.

I use this mask once in two weeks(when there are no active acne spots or redness) as it has many actives and my skin tends to get easily irritated if it goes through frequent stimulation whether from skincare products, exfoliants or environmental stress. I will suggest someone with an extremely sensitive skin(as in who’s skin remains flushed always and burns with little exposure to sun and tingles from using gentle exfoliants) to avoid using this mask. The presence of herbs like Clove, Cinnamon and Nutmeg that are found in a myriad of organic and natural products indicated for acne and congestion can be very stimulating even if used in smaller quantities on skin that does not mingle well with herbal actives.

If you use natural products that contain these herbs, for example, May Lindstrom then you will like the formula of this mask but expect it to tingle initially.

As the name indicates, this day cream or day/night cream without SPF has a Probiotic Complex along with multiple antioxidants and moisturising ingredients. It has a consistency of a light weight oil based cream that will not make you look oily throughout the day unless your skin’s sebaceous glands are over active. Although the topic of using Probiotics in skincare is under discussion, I find no reason to skip it whatsoever.

From Vitamin E, to Jojoba and Sunflower Seed Oil with skin-plumping Hyaluronic Acid and Goji Berry extract, this multitasking cream has a great blend of ingredients that can definitely improve the condition of your skin not only on the surface but also from within. You should expect your superficial wrinkles, that come from dryness and dehydration, white flakes of skin, tight and stretchy feeling and dullness to be much improved when you use this fast absorbing moisturiser. Top it off with both water soluble Vitamin C and Rosehip Oil you will surely notice the softening of dark spots, the the barrier of your skin getting more improved and sallowness getting reduced with consistent use.

Being said that, if your skin is like mine, then you should do a patch test on the most acne-affected areas of your face as the formula of this cream may or not lead to congestion.

If you started wearing glasses from your childhood, you may vividly remember your Mum and elders recommending of carrot juice for good eyesight. It is not a myth but rather a fact as carrots are rich in Vitamin A, an essential vitamin for our body to function properly and also for healthy skin.

Andalou Naturals uses Purple Carrots, that are said to be rich in anthocyanins, an antioxidant that is most often found in berries, such as blueberries. Along with very high beta-carotene content that converts into Vitamin A in our bodies, these when applied topically provide high antioxidant, sun protection(sunblock is still necessary), skin strengthening and dark spot fading properties.

As this is a night cream, it has more rich emollients like Flax Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter, Avocado Fruit Oil, Evening Primrose Oil with Cranberry Juice, Vitamin C, the patent Fruit Enzyme and Berry Complex and Riboflavin, Vitamin B6.In simple words, your skin gets a good dose of Fatty Acids, Antioxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A all from one nourishing product.

Again, like the day cream, this one doesn’t have a rich greasy formula but I suggest patch testing for ruling out any possible pore clogging issues and I wouldn’t recommend this for someone who has very oily skin that breaks out often.

What do I love about Andalou Naturals Brightening Line?

Refreshing Scent, except for the Lemon Meyer Creamy Cleanser

Lightweight formulas

Can be used throughout the year for most skin types

Brand ethics

People with slightly oily skin without breakout prone skin also can use these products

What did I not love about Andalou Naturals Brightening Line?

The formula of the night cream could be tweaked a little so someone with very reactive(comedogenic) skin type would get to reap the benefits

The scent of the cleanser is slightly offensive

Which products would I recommend the most?

My number one pick has to be the Clementine + C Illuminating Toner as it will suit everyone from dry to oily and acne prone and then the Lemon Meyer Creamy Cleanser. Despite the scent, I love it as there are very few cream cleansers that work so well and do not leave any greasy residual behind. This cleanser is great for oily skin types when using chemical exfoliants.
