Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog!
“Snail Slime”, a term that is causing such a stir among the beauty industry that even the most finicky ones have finally laid down their armour and surrendered to the fact that this clinically proven ingredient does have multiple benefits on our skin.
Among other ingredients like Placenta, Horse Oil, Snake Venom, Bee Venom and many more, Snail Slime has been on the list of skincare ingredients that has received many positive reviews and loved by actual consumers and beauty experts.
I have been resisting myself for very long, approximately since mid 2017 whether to buy something from Mizon All In One Repair range. The idea of bringing an animal secretion based product in touch with my skin just gave me goose bumps. Soon, this once a pet peeve started turning into a field of interests and I enjoyed learning more about various nature or animal derived ingredients and their surprisingly positive effects on our skin. How and when did the change happen? I myself have no idea, except that my thirst for testing out whether these products do work as they claim to be has increased more than ever.
A bit about the brand;
Mizon’s Research and Development is headed by some of the researchers in AmorePacific, one of the largest Asian beauty company that has many sub brands under it’s belt.
The philosophy behind Mizon is using highly effective ingredients to create gentle formulas good enough for sensitive skin as well. They have won multiple awards for technology and innovation and currently hold 16 patents including panax ginseng polysaccharides- found to be effective as skin lightening and anti inflammatory in some clinical studies.
They have their own manufacturing facility that cuts down the cost making their products more affordable to the mass. As of now Mizon has it’s presence in many countries worlwide.
All In One Snail Repair Cream and Pore Refine Deep Cleansing Foam are two of the the bestsellers from Mizon.
Now, let’s talk about the cream;
Mizon All In One Snail Repair Cream
What is it?
Mizon All In One Snail Repair Cream is a facial cream that claims to repair and regenerate skin. It promises to deliver positive effects against post acne scars, photodamage and also help in reducing wrinkles. In simple words, it will help brighten the skin tone, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, lighten acne scars(post inflammatory hyper pigmentation), repair the skin’s barrier and reduce irritation.
It varies with every e-commerce website but below are links from popular korean shopping destinations. Both ship worldwide.
75gms but I was able to get my hands on a 30ml deluxe size sample from here
An amber coloured translucent brown plastic jar with white fonts. It is a thick good quality jar.
The primary ingredient this cream based on is 92% Snail Secretion Filtrate that has been clinically proven by many different studies for it’s skin healing and repairing properties. Snail Slime is the secretion collected from garden/ground snails which they secrete for variety of purposes like crawling smoothly, creating a protective layer around the soft parts of the body.
It is very rich in proteins, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and is an anti microbial.
Adenosine — A component of our cells present throughout the body that basically works like an energy for our cells to function normally. It is known to benefit ageing amd mature skin by reducing the wrinkles and increasing the absorption of nutrients throughout our bodies.
Sodium Hyaluronate — A humectant(absorbs moisture towards the skin) that I recommend everyone regardless of their age should include in their skincare routine. It is naturally present in our skin but depleted with age and other stressors. It is one of those components of our skin that gives a supple look without the grease. It keeps the skin soft and comforted by maintaining the water balance.
There are three types of peptides present;
– Copper Tripeptide-1
– Human Oligopeptide-1
– Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4
Peptides are the most desirable ingredients to look for in age defying products along with Retinols. These help build up collagen and elastin, the tissue fibers that give our face the structure and the lift. Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 aka Matrixyl is proven by some studies that it works just as efficiently as Retinol to reduce deep wrinkles and improve the shape of the face without the skin sensitising side effects of the latter.
There are also a variety of plant extracts that have either or both antioxidant and anti inflammatory benefits.
Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Artemesia Absinthium Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Camellia Sinesis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract,
Although there is a word “cream” in the title of this product, Mizon recommends using it post cleansing as the first product. Doesn’t it sound a bit strange? It surely did to me because creams always come after toners, treatments and serums. Anyways, I initially used it after my serum but got on track after a week and now I always apply the cream before my night serum but after my eye cream.
The texture and consistency of this cream is very light(lighter than an aloe vera gel) and doesn’t even take three minutes before it is completely absorbed. There is no scent as it is a fragrance free product which makes it a great choice for people like me. You can relate it to a slime that has been reduced of it’s viscosity and turned into this light airy water infused cream. It in no way has the consistency of a cream or a gel cream. As the weather is colder as of now, my skin does require a light helping of a cream or an oil as the last step, but during summers this cream with a hydrating serum would suffice.
There are a couple possibly comedogenic ingredients like stearic acid and hydrogenated vegetable oil but I haven’t had any breakouts from using this cream. Our skin structure is very complex so one ingredient may break me out but not you or the third person. I always suggest looking for the comedogenic level of the ingredient and also the amount used before getting your hands on a product. Don’t blindly follow comedogenic ratings without testing out a product unless you know whether an ingredient will or will not break you out for sure.
Talking about the performance of this cream on my skin, I have gradually started to notice some improvements. I always wake up with plump skin that has a healthy glow to it. My skin is not dehydrated or suffers from flakey patches. The recent acne spots healed faster and the brown scars(PIH) are already starting to fade. I do not have wrinkles but the laugh lines that were starting to show up due to dehydration are no more prominently visible. It does help a little bit with uneven skin tone like a recent tan or dullness.
This cream is not controlling the hormonal breakout during that time of the month, but I believe there is a lot of inflammation and imbalances going on that a single cream can not have control over. Within four weeks of regular use my old acne scars haven’t been affected in a way that I can notice a significant lightening effect.
Overall, I can say that this is a lovely extremely light weight skincare product that without causing any side effects or breakouts helps with improving the texture and the condition of the skin. With continued use along with treatment products, it can help with visible blemishes, fine lines and preventing from causing unnecessary dehydration and loss of elasticity due to environmental and lifestyle stressors.
