Classic Red Lip Makeup Look

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog!

It feels like the year had just began and everyone was talking about their new year resolutions and now it is almost Christmas eve.

Whether some of you were able to achieve your goals this year or were left disappointed, I wish you all the best wishes for 2018. Life doesn’t always turn out the way we plan and it can shun us in the worst way possible but there is something fascinating about a year ending because just across the edge there is a new beginning which is even more exciting. My only advice is to let go of what happened and learn from your experiences to make the coming year wonderful and satisfying.

With regards to the ever so mesmerising spirit of Christmas and the jaw dropping decorations, I created a classic party look that features golden eye and red lip vamped up with fake eyelashes- my first ever.

There are thousands of makeup looks uploaded everyday by so many amazingly beautiful bloggers and youtubers. The use of different colours and extremely artistic way of creating out of this world beautiful looks is very difficult to replicate by amateur MUAs like me. Although, there is almost everything that one can find on the internet today, I have noticed lack of content on party makeup looks which can look great both on and off camera. The types of makeup done for photo shoots and instagram require lot of layering and use of multiple products to create a multi dimension look. In reality, it can look wayy too over the top and you certainly don’t want to look like you are wearing an entire makeup store.

Today’s look is certainly more party appropriate and does require bold colour still it looks just as good in reality as in the pictures.

Let’s begin, shall we?

I prepped my skin with Smashbox Foundation Primer for this look which is not pictured here, but is one of the best light weight primers I have used. It is a gel, spreads easily and evenly and never balls up. It will suit every skin type except really dry skin. If so, I highly recommend moisturising your skin thoroughly beforehand.

(Please excuse the lighting as the sun was trying to fool around)

Always start your makeup from your eyes(I learnt it the hard way) and then move on to your face. After dabbing the Smashbox primer I use for the face, I applied a thin veil of Maybelline Concealor to create an even canvas(Doing so also deepens the intensity of eyeshadows- think richer and pigmented colours). BH cosmetics Blush and Eyeshadow Palette has been my bff throughout my trip recently and the variety of colours make it so easy to trasnsition from day to night looks.L I started with a rose gold colour for my crease(pictured below) and used a medium sized crease crush. The colours in this palette are very pigmented, so use a light hand and build up to your desired intensity. Then I took a small chisel brush and darkened the outer corner of my eye with deep chocolate brown shade(pictured below). To finish off I used a shimmer gold colour from the same palette applying on 3/4 of my lid without going over the dark brown shade. To soften any harsh edges I used a blending brush and very gently diffused the dark brown with gold. To highlight the inner corner of my eyes, I used a gold champagne colour(pictured below) with a narrow pointy brush. For the lower lash line, I took the dark brown colour used on the outer corner of my eye and applied from outer to inner lash line halfway meeting the gold shade used on my lids and blending to eliminate harsh lines.

My eye liner of choice has been this gel liner from HalfnHalf Cosmetics that sets well and doesn’t smudge until removed with a waterproof makeup remover. I did quite a bold liner but it goes really well with the entire look. Since this was my first time trying out false lashes, my choice was Ardell’s Natural Eyelashes as they give an elongated look to my big eyes. For the lower lashes I used my favourite high end mascara from Estee Lauder.

For the base I used HalfnHalf Cosmetics Miracle Touch Skin Foundation that gives moderate coverage and is great for combination to dry skin types. It also has a factor of 50 PA++ which is not very common to find in a good and affordable foundation. I used this with few drops of L’Oreal’s light weight oil(smells heavenly) and Faces Canada Champagne Highlighter(Oil Free and no harsh glitter particles)and applied all over my face with my hands(clean, obviously) and blended with a wet sponge. I am very tanned at the moment(thanks to not regularly applying sunscreen on my holiday) so the highlighter just blends in my skin giving a luminious look. To cover specific spots I used the same Maybelline Fit Me Concealor and blended again with the same wet sponge.

To contour my very inexpensive product of choice is Blush Contour Palette by Maybelline. It is great for beginners and has been mentioned so many times on my blog. I used this brush by Real Techniques  and created a three on both the sides of my face to achieve subtle contoured look. With the same brush I took the peach colour from the same palette(pictured below) to brush a little above the contour line on my cheeks and blended it. This brush is dense rounded and very soft so works well as a multitasker. I usually love to accentuate the apples of my cheeks but for this bold look I wanted less going on my face.

Using the same highlighter from Faces Canada, I made two tiny dots on the bridge of my nose and along the upper cheek bones while blending it with a wet sponge. This is only to create subtle dimensions so the face doesn’t look flat.

As the formula of the products were both liquid and powder and the westger is very low in humidity, I decided to skip using a setting powder altogether.

Red lipsticks usually bleed and transfer a lot plus they also make the dry patches on the lips more obvious. To prevent this I make a mixture of sugar, honey and petroleum jelly(use avocado oil if you like) and exfoliate my lips before prepping my face. To keep them soft I am using this raw avocado oil based vegan lip balm which instantly softens and is not sticky.

I dab bit of loose powder on the lips and apply the lipstick with a brush. Once that sets, I go over with a second coat and dab it with tissue. This locks the colour and manages to stay even after eating and drinking. The lipstick I used is again from HalfnHalf Cosmetics in the shade Rich Red. It is extremely pigmented and has the most perfect warmth so it will look great on all skin tones. With it’s semi matte finish and following the above mentioned steps, you will be able to achieve a perfect red pout.
