Hey My Beauty Geeks!!!

It has been quite sometime since I shared my tips and products on summer care essentials. There is always a broken link to how should we actually take care of our skin and what type of products should be circulated depending on the season. The market is always offering myriad of opportunities and every brand tries to showcase their products as one stop shop for all our beauty needs. I agree, it is not a piece of cake to master skincare and understand the science behind it, which is why we have skin specialists, aestheticians and of course, dermatologists. However, we all end up buying the most marketed products and feel like we have achieved our goals. By understanding our skin thoroughly and finding what products work best coupled with sensible shopping and sticking to a routine can really go a long way in keeping the skin youthful and glowy. But, there are times when we often neglect those essential steps of overall skincare that is crucial throughout the year.
Today, I want to share some of the tips and products leaning towards warmer months and suggest that you try to incorporate at least a few to help your skin tolerate the harsh rays, hot and dry winds or humidity and prevent the associated skin issues. Please read further to find out how you can use these simple yet sensible tips and products that can help you achieve a youthful glow.

Regardless, of your activities whether indoors or outdoors, it is disciplinary to follow a cleansing routine twice a day. No matter how much our skin feels and looks clean when we wakeup in the morning, not everything that sits on our skin is visible to the naked eye. Some try to justify that washing face is only applicable if we are wearing makeup or have been out entire day. Sebum, bacteria, dirt, sweat and consequential pore clogging, dullness, oiliness is a viscous circle that happens even if we are indoors and not wearing a hint of makeup. Cleansing is the first and the most crucial step towards a healthy skin. Try, Juice Beauty Green Apple Brightening Gel Cleanser 26$ for an effective citric, malic acid based cleanse without the sulfates, parabens, phthalates and artificial fragrances and dyes. It contains organic ingredients and work to clarify and brighten without the chemicals and suits all skin types except very sensitive. So, try to use this cleanser thrice a week as the acids can initially make the skin slightly sensitised and do not leave the house without a high factor SPF. Bioderma Sensibio Foaming Gel 16.90$ is an exceptionally mild formula that is soap free, paraben free, colour ant free and most importantly fragrance free. It is a light weight, PH balanced hydrating and foaming formula that will not make the skin greasy like other sensitive skin cleansers can do. Infact, everyone can use it.

Skin is not exposed to sunlight when indoors. Sunscreen makes our skin greasy. Who needs to have a white cast on the face when it is dark outside. Excuses…Excuses…Sun is always shining, whether the sky is blue and clear or it is full of grey clouds. So, it is mandatory that we protect our skin. And do not be fooled, UV rays are so powerful that they can pass through the window glass and still penetrate our dermal layer. Big Cloud Daily Face Moisturiser With Sunscreen SPF 25 9$ is a moisturiser and sunscreen in one formula at such an affordable price. It offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection and is suitable for all skin types and contains green tea, aloe vera, sage and vitamin E to protect from environmental stress, offers non-greasy, light weight hydration and soothing effect. Free from parabens and artificial dyes.

Our skin is more likely to suffer from spots, tan, breakouts during the hot weather. Using products loaded with antioxidants will not only protect our skin from further damage, it will also help to reverse it gradually. Make sure to apply an antioxidant rich serum underneath your sunscreen as it will boost the fighting power and prevent from blotchiness, coarse leathery skin, sun spots and premature ageing. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum 36$ is a paraben, phthalate and fragrance free light weight, gel based serum that gently moisturises with an attractive blend of green tea, aloe vera, peptides, oatmeal, collagen, hyaluronic acid among many others that work to brighten, lighten, protect, soothe, hydrate and stregthen the skin barrier.

Summertime, means holidays, beach outings and lots of fun in the sun. We are more likely to wash hands frequently during this time and that means sunscreen is washed off. Not to forget, all that washing strips the skin of its moisture and our hands are among the first to show the signs of ageing. I can not stress enough that we opt for sunscreens but should not forget to moisturise as well. But, most sunscreens are just basic UV protecting formulas. So, my best bet would be a hand cream that is non sticky and moisturising at the same time. Big Cloud Good Shake Hand Cream 6$ has intrigued me with its matte setting, paraben free formula. Even though it is marketed for men, when it comes to skincare, effectivity is the only thing you need to consider. You will be surprised how it disappears leaving behind a mild musky herbal scent of thyme and amber which is very refreshing. Formulated with shea butter, jojoba oil, macademia and meadowfoam seed oil that are intensely moisturising and non greasy. Apply this hand cream underneath your sunscreen to get soft, smooth and residue free hands.

Hot and dry winds or sweaty days force us to reach out for icy cold drinks. For some, like myself being outdoors in mid afternoon causes severe headaches and nothing works like an aspirin and hot cup of tea or coffee. While, it helps relieve the pain, excessive caffeine dehydrates the body and that shows up on our skin. Sugar is acidic and combined with hot weather, it can lead to several digestive problems which in turn affects our hormonal balance and eventually our skin suffers. The solution? Swap sugary drinks with mostly plain water and a glass of pure fruit and vegetable juice. Reduce caffeine intake to maximum twice a day and couple with twice the amount of water intake. Avoid being outdoors from late morning to mid afternoon. If that is not possible, wear UV reflecting glasses and wide brimmed hat or an umbrella with small sips of water every few minutes to avoid dehydration.
I suggest including lots of watermelons, cantaloupes, cucumbers and mint in particular.

Our lips suffer the most, yet we hardly bother about them. We want to flaunt bright lip colours but we do not want to show some love to our pout. Lips do not have hair follicles to keep them moist by allowing the secretion of sebaceous glands, neither do have enough melanin to protect them from UV damage and are thinner from our facial skin. Consequently, lips dry faster, become uneven in terms of pigmentation and age faster. The best thing you can do is exfoliate gently and immediately follow up with a moisturising lip balm with SPF. One product worth purchasing is Big Cloud Sky Master Mint Leaf Lip Balm With Sunscreen SPF 15 4$ that not only contains zinc oxide based broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, it is sheer, lightweight and not at all sticky. It provides moisturisation and antioxidant benefit with aloe vera, grape fruit, green tea, vitamin E, sorbitol and unique ingredients like cola nut, birch and garden cress that are astringents, anti irritants and rich in phytonutrients respectively. Has a mild minty scent and is free of parabens and artificial dyes.

While we are now protecting our hands, our feet too deserve lot of respect. We abuse them and still they come last on our list for skincare. Sandals, lots of walking and long travels can make our feet dry, cracked and sore under scorching sun. Those bejewelled sandals aren’t going to look great on those flaky, dull and swollen feet. Get your feet summer ready with hot water soak, dry exfoliating and nourishing oils. My best products to try are, Peppermint Cooling Pumice Foot Scrub 14$ which is a gel based scrub that contains volcanic rock granules that provide a thorough physical exfoliation and soothes the aching muscles with the presence of peppermint oil. For a relaxing soak try BEING Float Salt Bath 18$ as it contains dead sea salts, essential oils of cypress and peppermint, both of which are very effective in soothing muscles, eliminating feet odour and invigorating. It also contains french green clay that has deep cleansing and disinfecting properties. To nourish the skin without the heavy feel, Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil Rosehip 8.47$ is an extremely affordable option that is suitable for entire body and face as it is light weight and non-staining formula. It is free of parabens and preservatives while moisturises the skin with Cocoa butter, Vitamin E, Canola Oil, Sesame Oil, Rosehip seed extract and comes with a pump dispenser, so you can carry it in your handbag.

Although, it is time to stock your dressing table with summer friendly, light weight moisturisers and mattifying products, our skin is most likely to get dehydrated during this weather. To avoid looking oily, we often use products that are not hydrating enough and we do not look as glowy as we wish to. Incorporate twice to thrice a week nightly routine using a thick layer of hydrating masques as your last skincare step. Try,  Lioele V-Line Waterdrop Sleeping Pack 16$ as an amazing steal to deeply hydrate your skin with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and botanicals that soothe and clarify without any irritationFor best results, apply a thick layer after your night serum and wash off in the morning.

Clogged pores and excessive sebum production during summers can not be completely controlled unless we take certain measures. Coupled with dehydration, our skin becomes a confusing platform of breakouts, blackheads, dry surface with oiliness underneath. Use these Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme 14.95$ at night after cleansing to allow the glycolic, salicylic and madelic acids exfoliate, unclog and brighten, while lactic acid soothes and hydrates along with hyaluronic acid that acts like a moisture bomb. I highly recommend using once a week in the beginning and increase to thrice a week maximum to let the skin gradually adapt to the acids. Do not forget your daily SPF as usual, especially the morning after.
